From the end of March through late May
Yokohl Valley is alive with spring flowers, nesting birds, and the
leafing out of the oak woodlands.
Landscape images still abound as the dominant two wildflowers,
fiddleneck and popcorn flowers, fill the pastures and hillsides with
color. Other wildflowers also begin to show as the days warm
and the extra hours of sunlight work their magic. I've
photographed 30 different wildflowers in the valley.
But the main draw for me is still the wildlife and birds.
Nesting hawks and owls fill the sycamore trees as an abundance of
small mammals provide ample food for their young. Bobcats,
coyotes, even badgers, stalk the fields for prey. Dozens of
species of songbirds nest in the valley and are in a continual
search for food.Reservations
We meet in Visalia, California and drive together into the valley.
Following the morning shoot we also travel to the Dry Creek area
north of Three Rivers to shoot mid-day, before returning to Yokohl
Valley for the late afternoon. Temps are usually cool but
pleasant.
Discounts on this safari are available if you do other Yokohl Valley
safaris as well. $200 for two. |
