Yokohl Valley has become one of my
favorite go-to locations because of the wide variety of photographic
subjects close by. This narrow valley in the foothills of the
Sierra-Nevada Mountains is comprised of rolling oak woodlands and
pastures blocked at the south end by a ridge, which if you cross
over goes into Spring Valley.
There are numerous opportunities to shoot landscapes in the valley.
The greening pastures and oaks provide lots of subjects, and flowers
come early due to the low elevation of the valley.
Perhaps the valley's greatest
treasure is the wildlife that call the valley home. There are
numerous species of raptors, songbirds, and game birds that live
year-round in Yokohl Valley. There is a healthy population of
bobcats and coyotes that live in the valley as well, as shown in the
photos here. Raptors and owls like Great Horned Owls,
Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, and Sharp shinned Hawks all
nest in Yokohl Valley. The wildlife is amazing.
Reservations
We meet in Visalia, California and drive together into the valley.
Following the morning shoot we also travel to the Dry Creek area
north of Three Rivers to shoot mid-day, before returning to Yokohl
Valley for the late afternoon. Temps are usually cool but
pleasant.
Discounts on this safari are available if you do other Yokohl Valley
safaris through the spring. $200 for two. |
